Frequently Asked Questions by Candidates:
What does Business Council look for in candidates for our New Member class?
Business Council is looking for well-rounded, ambitious, and passionate individuals with a strong interest in business. Throughout the recruitment process, we want to hear about your unique qualities and experiences, as well as how you have previously made an impact and will continue to do so in the future. Business Council hopes to professionally develop its New Members and give them the opportunity to grow as a part of our BC family.
Do I have to be a business major to apply?
No, Business Council encourages all majors to apply! We are proud that BC members represent over 50 diverse majors at the University of Illinois and feel that an interest in business can bring success in all fields.
Can I apply more than once?
Yes, you can – in fact, we encourage it! Many of our members applied more than once before joining Business Council, and there is absolutely no penalty for going through our recruitment process again. BC recruits at the beginning of both the fall and spring semesters.
I can’t make it to Info Night. Can I still apply?
Because Information Night is the best opportunity to learn about Business Council and network with our diverse members, attendance is mandatory to apply. However, if you have a valid excuse (i.e. class or other mandatory university requirement), please email our Executive Board at email@example.com before 5 PM on August 29th to be excused.
What is the dress code for recruitment events?
Attire for Information Night is business casual. If you are selected to continue our recruitment process, dress code for future events will be communicated via email.
Business casual is defined as “a classic, clean cut, and put together look where a full suit is not required”. The basics include khaki/dress pants, and a long-sleeved, button-down shirt for men and a blouse for women. Professional, appropriate skirts and dresses are also acceptable. If you do not own any professional attire, we recommend visiting the University of Illinois Career Center. Their “Career Closet” offers gently used, professional clothing free of charge.
